Anesthetic Gas-Best Practices, Use and Troubleshooting

Best Practices:

Water trap should be changed every 30 days or when occlusion error is seen.

To empty, connect a 20ml syringe to draw water out.

Do not wash or sterilize the trap.

Do not allow any alcohol or cleaning agent / disinfectant to enter the water trap.

 

Troubleshooting:

Check WT/S Message: Empty or replace water trap. If this does not resolve error, send for service,this could mean a cable disconnected internally.

Alarm Messages:

High and Low ETCO2 - Are triggered if the ETCO2 value overlaps the High or Low Limits
respectively.
High and Low InsCO2 - Are triggered if the InsCO2 value overlaps the High or Low Limits
respectively.
High and Low Resp - Are triggered if the Respiration Rate value overlaps the High or Low
Limits respectively.
High and Low EtN2O - Are triggered if the EtN2O value overlaps the High or Low Limits
respectively.
High and Low EtAGAS - Are triggered if the EtAGAS value overlaps the High or Low Limits
respectively.
High and Low InsAGAS - Are triggered if the InsAGAS value overlaps the High or Low Limits
respectively.
High and Low EtMAC - Are triggered if the EtMAC value overlaps the High or Low Limits
respectively.
High and Low InsMAC - Are triggered if the InsMAC value overlaps the High or Low Limits
respectively.
Occlusion -
Indicates the pneumatic pressure in the GAS module is out of its
expected range. Check if the sample line is occluded or kinked.
Note: Occlusion can occur inside the GAS module, if occlusion
persists contact Digicare.

Use:

-Select the Anesthetic Agent to be measured direct in the Gas Indicators screen. They are color coded. The options are:
Hal = Halothane = Red
Enf = Enflurane = Orange
Iso = Isoflurane = Purple
Sev = Sevoflurane = Yellow
Des = Desflurane = Blue

-The LifeWindow Anesthetic Agents Gas module does not require gas calibration by the user. When the
monitor is turned on, the gas module do an Auto-Zero calibration function. Depending on the warm-up time
this will take from 2 to 5 minutes. The Gas function will initially display the Accuracy state as “Startup” and
change to “ISO” when the auto-zero process is complete and the module is at the specified accuracy.

The CO2 waveform is displayed by default on traces 5 and 6 cascaded. The default scale is 0 to 50
mmHg. Change the CO2 waveform scale by pressing the Gas Indicators area or the GASES menu in
the top of the screen.
The CO2 waveform scales are:
0 to 5 mmHg
0 to 10 mmHg
0 to 20 mmHg
0 to 50 mmHg
0 to 100 mmHg

SPECIES
The species setting will be used for the MAC measurement. Options are Canine, Feline and Equine.


GAS ALARMS LIMITS
The Gases Alarm Limits have default values. To change the default Gases Alarm Limits touch the Gas
Indicators screen or the GASES menu to open the Gases settings screen.


NO BREATHS TIMEOUT
The Gas module function start automatically at instantaneous mode. That means until the first breath is
detected it will display the instantaneous values of CO2 and gases and will not alarm NO BREATH.
After two breaths are detected, the unit changes for Breath mode. In this mode the End-Tidal and Inspired
values of the CO2 and gases measured are displayed. In the Breath mode, the setting for No Breath
Timeout will determine the time to alarm NO BREATH after the last breath is detected.


The options for the No Breath Timeout are:
5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 seconds and also turn-off by setting Apnea Alarm Off.
